Youth Services
Open Door’s Youth Services provide safe, fun and welcoming spaces for young people during and after the school day.
Our Youth Services exist to provide inclusive and friendly spaces where young people can access support, build relationships, and develop the skills they need to navigate life’s challenges. We recognise the unique struggles that young people face today – such as mental health issues, loneliness, and societal pressures. Our services aim to empower young individuals by fostering confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Through mentoring, access to essential resources, opportunities to try new activities and group work, the services create opportunities for young people to thrive and contribute positively to their communities.
Our projects include Haven, based at Exmouth Community College, and Toast Youth Café, delivered twice weekly from the Open Door Community Hub based in Exmouth town centre.
What is Haven?
Haven is an emotional wellbeing project, providing mentoring and a lunchtime safe space, for students in Years 7-9 at Exmouth Community College. Haven also provides enhanced transition sessions for small groups of Year 6 students, who are particularly anxious about the move to secondary school.
When is the Toast Youth Café open?
Toast runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during term-time, from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. Toast also runs some sessions during the school holidays such as ‘Big Art’, ‘Big Chill’ and ‘Big Lunch’.
What happens at Toast?
Toast Youth Café provides a safe and friendly space for young people to hang out, do homework, enjoy drinks, toast and toppings, play games including PS4, and engage in a variety of activities. We regularly provide art, craft and cooking sessions. The sessions are free of charge.
Support is available from our youth team and young people have access to our Community Fridge, enabling them to take food home to their families.
